Some examples include: damaged mortar (because mortar is typically not as durable as the brick), salt damage which is common in cold, wintery areas like Canada, expansions and contractions which can lead to cracks, foundation movement and changes to grade levels which can all cause stress on the structure. Brick refacing and repairs may involve: removing the brick, replacing the brick and fixing unsteady mortar joints, usually with a process called tuckpointing. Tuckpointing is among our specialties and involves using different coloured mortar to create an appearance of a fine mortar joint, so it creates a more appealing aesthetic, but at the same time creates a stronger adhesion of the mortar and therefore the durability and integrity of the brickwork. |
